“You have a man in there?” he asked, his voice deceptively gentle.
“What? No!”
He pushed her aside and charged in like a bull after a matador. “Who’s in here?”
“No one! I slid into a wall when Agnes scared me half to death beating on my door.” Sheesh! “What are you, my brother?”
His gaze raked her from head to foot. “Hardly, honey.”
She blushed and didn’t quite know why. “Why are you here?”
“Someone tried to break into my house tonight. I wanted to make sure you were okay. Keep your doors and windows locked. Do you have a burglar alarm installed?” He stomped through her house checking windows. She caught his arm to stop him, but he just dragged her along for the ride.
“Mr. Anderson….”
That stopped him. He looked down at her, and his lips quirked. “Are you fresh in from the Matrix, Sarah?”
“What?”
“Never mind. But please, stop calling me Mr. Anderson.”
“Why?”
He pulled her against his hard chest, his eyes glittering as he stared down at her. She opened her mouth to speak, but he covered her lips with his, and she forgot what she'd been about to say. His long fingers tangled in her hair. He kissed her with a forceful heat that sent her common sense fleeing. There was only this moment, this kiss. She couldn’t help it; she melted into him like frosting on hot cake. He lifted his warm mouth from hers hours, or minutes, or days later, and set her away from him.
She had trouble focusing her eyes and fought to keep a grin off her face. It wasn’t like she’d never been kissed before, but that kiss, his kiss….
“That’s why.”
His velvety soft voice sent shivers up her spine. “Oh.”
